Malaiyaha People’s Land Day Commemorated with a Powerful Mobilization in Passara, Badulla
To mark Malaiyaha People’s Land Day, a vibrant march, public rally, and mass gathering were successfully held yesterday (05 July 2026) in Passara, Badulla, with the enthusiastic participation of the Malaiyaha community and supporters.
The event was organized by the Malaiyaha People’s Land Rights Movement, while Uva Shakthi Organization efficiently coordinated and managed all the arrangements.
A mere 7 perches is not an acceptable solution.
The Malaiyaha people must be granted at least 20 perches of land, together with legal land ownership titles, without further delay. Like every other citizen of Sri Lanka, the Malaiyaha community has the fundamental right to secure and equal land ownership.
The lands currently controlled by plantation companies should be transferred to the ownership of the people who have lived and worked on them for generations.
Land is not just soil; it represents our identity, dignity, political rights, livelihood, and future.
The voices raised in Passara echoed the collective demand of the entire Malaiyaha community for justice and land rights. What we seek is not a privilege, but the rightful recognition of generations of hard work and contribution.
As a member organization of the Malaiyaha People’s Land Rights Movement, the Voice of the Plantation People Organization extended its full support and active solidarity to this important event.
