“Imayam” District Malaiyaha Women’s Federation Develops Action Plan for Empowering Malaiyaha Women

On 11  July 2026, the Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) successfully convened the District Committee Meeting of the “Imayam” Malaiyaha Women’s Federation in Galle District.
During the meeting, members reviewed the progress made in implementing the decisions taken at the previous District Committee Meeting held in April 2026. They also discussed the key challenges currently faced by Malaiyaha women in Galle District and developed an action plan outlining future interventions and advocacy initiatives to address these issues.
In addition, the women leaders who participated in the leadership training programme conducted last month shared their experiences, reflected on the knowledge and skills they had gained, and explained how they are applying these learnings within their communities.
The meeting was facilitated by Lavina Hasanthi, Programme Director and Women’s Programme Coordinator of VOPP, together with K. Harshani, Galle District Coordinator.
A special session on advocacy and effective advocacy strategies was delivered by Anthony Jesudasan, Executive Director of VOPP. The Executive Committee members actively participated throughout the meeting, contributing valuable ideas and recommendations through group discussions. The meeting concluded with several important decisions aimed at strengthening future initiatives for the empowerment and advancement of Malaiyaha women in Galle District.
