The Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) continues to strengthen community-based leadership structures to advance the rights of the Malaiyaha (Plantation) community. Recognizing that sustainable social change must be driven by the community itself, VOPP has established District Executive Committees in each operational district to lead and coordinate local initiatives, strengthen grassroots participation, and advocate for the rights of the Malaiyaha community.
Accordingly, the Galle District Executive Committee convened its latest meeting on 11 July 2026.
During the meeting, committee members reflected on the importance of VOPP, its mission, and the progress and achievements made thus far in promoting and protecting the rights of the Malaiyaha community. They also discussed the key challenges currently faced by community members, including issues related to land, housing, education, livelihoods, and other social concerns.
The committee further reviewed its ongoing activities and developed action plans to address these challenges through collective advocacy and community engagement. Members reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening grassroots leadership and working together to ensure the rights, dignity, and sustainable development of the Malaiyaha community.
