Women representatives of the Civil Collective for Malaiyaha Reorganization met with Hon. Saroja Paulraj, Minister of Women and Child Affairs, on 23 February 2026 for a discussion.
During the meeting, they highlighted the neglect faced by Malaiyaha (plantation) communities and women affected by the Ditwa cyclone, particularly in relation to the government’s financial assistance and the ongoing reconstruction process. The discussion also focused on the social and economic challenges faced by Malaiyaha women, and the practical measures that the government—especially the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs—should take to address these issues.
The meeting was attended by Lavina Hasanthi Head of , Programme Voice of the Plantation People (VOPP) and Chairperson of the National Movement of Informal Women Workers.


In addition, Lavina Hasanthi handed over to the Minister a research report on the social, economic, cultural, and political conditions of Malaiyaha communities in the Southern Province. (Research conducted by VOPP)
