Empowering the Southern and Western Malaiyaha Community: Action Plan Meeting

On 10 May 2025, the Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) held an Action Plan Meeting with active participation from Malaiyaha community representatives from the Matara, Galle, and Kalutara districts.

The meeting was organized based on the recommendations of the research report on the Social, Economic, Cultural, and Political situation of the Southern Malaiyaha community, which was released on 29 April 2025. Community leaders and youth representatives came together to prepare a six-month action plan addressing the key challenges highlighted in the report.

The discussions focused on land ownership and housing rights, education, and other basic needs, ensuring that the proposed interventions are targeted and practical.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in empowering the Malaiyaha community, ensuring that their voices guide the development of sustainable solutions for their social and economic wellbeing.
