Last week, the Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) organized a media visit to the Hemmeliya Estate in the Galle District, where nine families of the Malaiyaha community continue to live on ancestral land they have occupied for more than 80 years. The visit aimed to bring national attention to their long struggle for land rights, housing, and recognition. Several media outlets joined the visit and published reports highlighting the community’s challenges and VOPP’s continuous advocacy efforts. Below are the links to the related media coverage.
