Monthly Staff and Reflection Meeting

The Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) successfully held its monthly staff meeting on 29th–30th August 2025 at the National Office, Facilitated by Executive Director Anthony Jesudasan. The two-day meeting brought together staff from district and national levels to review progress, identify challenges, and plan future initiatives.

At the district level, VOPP has built strong trust and recognition among the Malaiyaha community. In Matara, people affirm that their concerns became visible only after VOPP’s engagement, especially in pushing for land ownership rights and strengthening ties with government officials and civil society. In Kalutara, VOPP continues to collaborate closely with local civil society groups and government authorities while creating opportunities for youth and community members through training, awareness, and follow-up programs.

At the national level, VOPP is increasingly recognized as a key stakeholder by both civil society and government institutions. A new MoU with the New Village Development Authority for Plantation Regions, strong cooperation with the Matara Government Agent, and the mobilization against the eviction of Hemmaliya Estate families demonstrate VOPP’s growing influence. The organization has also launched its official website and is pursuing new funding opportunities.

VOPP is preparing for upcoming milestones, including the launch of the National Women’s Federation in September. It will organize stakeholder meetings with government officials, religious leaders, and members from various estates. Additionally, VOPP’s 2nd Anniversary Celebrations will take place in October. With clear strategies, dedicated staff, and strong partnerships, VOPP continues to strengthen its mission of uplifting the voices and rights of the Malaiyaha people.
