Representatives of the Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) held a significant discussion with the Governor of the Southern Province, Hon. Bandula Harischandra, on 21st July 2025.
The discussion focused on several longstanding and emerging issues affecting the Malaiyaha community in the Southern Province, including:
The provision of land deeds for lands granted to the Malaiyaha people living in estates at various times since 1993,
The urgent need to reduce teacher vacancies in estate-related schools, particularly for subjects such as Science, Mathematics, English, Music, and other special disciplines,
The improvement of basic facilities in these schools and communities,
And the threat of eviction faced by residents of the Hammeliya private estate in Baddegama, Galle.
The meeting was attended by VOPP’s village-level Malaiyaha women, men, and youth leaders from the Galle and Matara districts. Key organizational representatives included Executive Director Mr. Anthony Jesudasan, Program Director Ms. Lavina Hasanthi, and Field Manager Mr. Anton Wanaththiya.
During the discussion, the survey report on the situation of the Malaiyaha people in the Southern Province—recently conducted by VOPP—was formally handed over to the Governor.Governor Harischandra commended the initiative, describing it as a very meaningful and productive engagement, and assured that he would present the issues raised by VOPP to the Southern Province District Development Committee. He also offered several suggestions for possible follow-up action.
1993 පසු විවිධ අවස්ථාවල රජය විසින් වතුවල ජීවත් වන මලෛයහම් ජනතාවට ලබා දුන් ඉඩම් සදහා ඔප්පු ලබා දීම සදහා හා වතු ආශ්රිත පාසල්වල විද්යා, ගණිතය, ඉංග්රීසි, සංගීතය හා අනෙකුත් විශේෂ විෂයන් සදහා ඇති ගුරු පුරප්පාඩු අවම කිරීම, මූලික පහසුකම් පිළිබද ගැටළු සහ ගාල්ල, බද්දේගම හැම්මෙලිය පුද්ගලික වතුයායේ ජීවත් වන මලෛයහම් ජනතාව ඉවත් කිරීම සදහා ගන්න උත්සහයට විසදුමක් ලබා දෙන ලෙස හා දකුණු පළාත් මලෛයහම් ජනතාව මුහුණ දෙන අනෙකුත් ගැටළු පිලිබදව දකුණු පළාත් ආණ්ඩුකාර බන්දුල හරිච්චන්ද්ර මහතා සමග වතුකරයේ ජනතා හඬ සංවිධානයේ නියෝජිතයන් පසු ගිය 2025.07.21 වන දින සාකච්ජාවක් පැවැත්වුව . මෙම සාකච්ජාව සදහා ගාල්ල හා මාතර දිස්ත්රික්කවල මලෛයහම කාන්තා හා පිරිමි සහ තරුණ නායක නායිකාවන්, වතුකරයේ ජනතා හඬ සංවිධානයේ විධායක අධ්යක්ෂක ඇන්තනි ජේසුදාසන් මහතා, වැඩසටහන් අධ්යක්ෂිකා ලවීනා හසන්ති, ක්ෂේස්ත්ර කළමනාකරු ඇන්ටන් වනත්තෛයියා යන අය සහභාගිවූ අතර මීට පෙර දකුණු පළාත් මලෛයහම් ජනතාව පිලිබදව කල සමීක්ෂණ වාර්තාවද ආණ්ඩුකාරතුමාට භාර දෙන ලදී. මෙම සාකච්ජාව ඉතා හොද සාකච්ජාවක් වූ VOPP ඉදිරිපත් කල ප්රශ්න පිලිබදව දිස්ත්රික් සංවර්ධන කමිටුවට ගෙන යන බව පැවසු ආණ්ඩුකාරතුමා තවත් යෝජනා කිහිපයක් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී.
1993 ஆம் ஆண்டுக்குப் பிறகு பல்வேறு காலகட்டங்களில் தோட்டங்களில் வசிக்கும் மலையக மக்களுக்கு அரசாங்கத்தால் வழங்கப்பட்ட நிலங்களுக்கான உறுதிப் பத்திரங்களை வழங்குதல், தோட்டங்களுக்கு அண்மித்த பகுதிகளில் காணப்படுகின்ற மலையக தமிழ் பாடசாலைகளில் அறிவியல் விஞ்ஞனம் , கணிதம், ஆங்கிலம், இசை மற்றும் பிற சிறப்புப் பாடங்களுக்கான ஆசிரியர் பற்றாக்குறையை குறைத்தல், அடிப்படை வசதிகளை உருவாக்குதல் மற்றும் காலி, பத்தேகமவில் உள்ள ஹெம்மெலிய தனியார் தோட்டத்தில் வசிக்கும் மக்களை வெளியேற்றுவதற்காக தோட்ட உரிமையாளர்கள் முயற்சித்தல் மற்றும் தென் மாகாண மலையக மக்கள் எதிர்கொள்ளும் ஏனைய பிரச்சினைகள் குறித்து பெருந்தோட்ட மக்கள் குரல் அமைப்பின் பிரதிநிதிகள் கடந்த 2025.07.21ம் திகதி அன்று தென் மாகாண ஆளுநர் பந்துல ஹரிச்சந்திரவுடன் கலந்துரையாடல் ஒன்றை மேற்கொண்டனர். இந்தக் கலந்துரையாடலில் பெருந்தோட்டத்துறை மக்கள் குரல் அமைப்பின் காலி மற்றும் மாத்தறை மாவட்டங்களைச் சேர்ந்த கிராம மட்ட தலைவர் தலைவிகள் மலையக மற்றும் இளைஞர் தலைவர்கள், பெருந்தோட்டத்துறை மக்கள் குரல் அமைப்பின் நிறைவேற்று இயக்குநர் அன்டனி ஜேசுதாஸன் , திட்ட இயக்குநர் லவினா ஹசந்தி, கள முகாமையாளர் அன்டன் வனத்தையா ஆகியோர் கலந்து கொண்டனர். தென் மாகாண மலையக மக்கள் குறித்து கடந்த காலத்தில் மேற்கொண்ட ஆய்வு அறிக்கையும் ஆளுநருக்கு கையளிக்கப்பட்டது. இந்தக் கலந்துரையாடல் மிகவும் நல்ல கலந்துரையாடலாக அமைந்ததோடு VOPP முன்வைத்த பிரச்சினைகளை மாவட்ட அபிவிருத்தி குழுவிடம் எடுத்துச் செல்வதாகவும், மேலும் இப்பிரச்சினைகளை தீர்ப்பதற்கான சில முன்மொழிவுகளை ஆளுநர் வழங்கினார்.
