VOPP Organizes March Highlighting Malaiyaha Women’s Issues on International Women’s Day

The Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) organized a march to mark International Women’s Day 2025, bringing attention to the pressing issues faced by Malaiyaha women and communities in the Southern and Western Provinces.

Women and men supporters from Matara, Galle, and Kalutara districts joined the march, carrying messages that highlighted challenges related to land rights, housing, land ownership, salary issues, education, and basic needs at the tea and rubber estates.

The march served as a powerful reminder of the struggles Malaiyaha women continue to face in their pursuit of equality, dignity, and justice. It also emphasized the urgent need for authorities and stakeholders to address these long-standing issues and ensure fair opportunities for the plantation community.

Through this symbolic action, VOPP reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Malaiyaha women and advancing their rights in society. 5
