On January 29, 2025, the staff of the Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) met with the Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka to discuss the situation of the Malaiyaha community in the Southern Province.
During the discussion, the VOPP team highlighted key issues faced by the community, including land and housing challenges, education, women’s empowerment, and access to basic needs.
The VOPP delegation included Mr. Anthony Jesudasan, Executive Director; Ms. Lavina Hasanthi, Program Director; Mr. Franzis Rajan, National Program Officer; and Mr. Anton Wanaththaiya Field Manager and Mr. A. Jesman, District Coordinato. Representing the Australian High Commission were the High Commissioner and Mr. Silvester, Senior Research Officer. The meeting was held at Avendra Hotel, Galle, and provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and explore potential areas of support for the Malaiyaha community.
